Warm and Welcoming

Costa Rica makes life easier. With average temperatures of 78-83°F year-round, it’s not too hot, and not too cold.

A Natural Beauty

Imagine 5% of the world’s biodiversity packed into .03% of the landmass. Costa Rica offers unparalleled encounters with our earth’s animals.

With 25% of the land under protected status, Costa Rica provides unique chances to encounter monkeys, toucans, sloths, orchids and jungle life. Oceans on both sides host humpback whales and sea turtles and even the occasional whale shark.

Volcanoes and beaches, jungle trails and saltwater surf; Costa Rica brings the best of what you want.

Safe and Stable

Costa Rica’s long-standing democratic traditions have made it a regional model of stability. And that stability has made it an attractive location for investors and retirees.

Like any country, Costa Rica does have crime. But among its regional neighbors, Costa Rica is one of the safest places to live.

Affordable

Costa Rica is not the regional leader in low-cost living. Many items in large chain stores are nearly equivalent in cost to the price in the U.S.

That said, Costa Rica is an extremely good value in a range of specific areas.

Firstly, there are a variety of high quality foods that are grown and sold locally that can be had for good prices. If you like vegetables and fresh fruits, centering your purchases on locally grown produce can result in some very good deals.

Where Costa Rica really shows her advantage is in labor costs. With a legal minimum wage of minimum $1.96 per hour, help in the form of a gardener, driver, house-cleaner, or assistant is very affordable. Minimum wages include the payment to social security and government programs, so you can rest assured all is legal and above board. See our “Business Friendly” section for more information on the affordability of hiring business professionals such as accountants and attorneys.

Active Lifestyle

Pura Vida is not just a slogan - it’s a reality.

Biking, hiking, surfing, canyoning, or just lying on the beach.

Costa Rica’s clean air and sunshine feed a renewed sense of personal energy.

Friendly Faces

Ticos manifest a warmth and openness in their relationship to others and to life. Ticos value courtesy and patience are in personal interactions with others. While they are candid about the problems life presents, they take a positive and constructive approach.

Costa Ricans are rightly proud of their country. One feature of life in Costa Rica is the complete lack of litter along the streets and highways. Ticos have made cleanliness and respect for their environment into a plank of their national identity. If you litter in Costa Rica, you may be in for a lecture by a local person, and you’d deserve it!

“It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”
